Mobile Routers - UK only

At first, I went with a mobile router to avoid getting locked into a long-term broadband contract. These routers were great for keeping in touch with my Mama right away. But eventually, I realised a stable broadband connection was a must, though I kept the mobile routers as backup. The main one’s in the sitting room, and the other two are in the kitchen and outside. And no, we don’t live in a mansion—but as you know, UK walls are thick, so you need some kind of extender.
Why only the UK? Well, they’re available here. I tried to get a backup in the USA, but no luck—you’re stuck with one carrier and that’s it. In the UK, I had an EE SIM in one router, a Smarty SIM in another, and so on. That way, I was covered if one went out.
I purchased a few to try them out as they are not supposed to last as long as the routers from Virgin or Sky - but these have lasted several years. I believe only once I had to replace one.
How to Set Up Your Mobile Router
Purchase a SIM Card: You will need to buy your own SIM card. Some retailers offer a “buy together” option, allowing you to purchase the router and SIM card in one package for convenience.
Set Up and Go: Insert the SIM card into the mobile router, and it’s ready to use. This quick setup is particularly helpful when immediate connectivity is needed.
Lots of sellers again for these - remember to look for SIM CARD UNLOCKED so you can add pay as you go.
As mentioned, UK homes often have thick walls, which can interfere with signal strength. I needed a few routers to ensure a strong and consistent connection throughout the house.
